A Celebratory Send Off for Basketball Champions
The Middleton High School Basketball Tigers are headed to Murfreesboro and were sent off in style on Tuesday, March 14, 2023, by their peers, parents, and community during a pep rally.
The Tigers were introduced as they came running into the Middleton High School gym. It is the same gym where the Tigers played the Booker T. Washington High School basketball Warriors last week and won the game at the final buzzer with a score of 57 – 52. That win solidified their chance to move forward to Murfreesboro this week where they will compete this afternoon at 4:30 p.m. in their first game of the tournament against East Robertson High School.
The week in Murfreesboro began on Monday with Rodgerick Robinson, Jr. winning the 2023 Mr. Basketball Award for Class 1A Mr. Basketball.
On Tuesday, they were celebrated during a pep rally at Middleton High School.
“I think we had an excellent season. They are a very good ball team and play well with each other. They had an excellent year and good luck to them,” said Keith Cabanaw, Middleton High School Assistant Principal.
Dr. Christy Smith, Hardeman County Director of Schools, also attended the pep rally and shared some comments about the team.
“We are super excited they worked so hard to get where they are and we are pushing for them all of the way. We hope they bring that gold ball home,” said Dr. Smith.
After loading onto the team bus, the players received a police escort to Middleton Elementary School where they were again greeted by cheers from fans.
The Tigers received a police escort through to Bolivar and from Bolivar to the end of the city limits.
Tonight the Tigers will play what hopefully will be the first game of three games as they move closer to a state championship.
The Middleton Tigers finished the season first place in district 14A with game wins of 10 – 0 district and 27 – 1 overall.
The East Robertson Indians finished the season second place in district 8A with game wins of 8 – 2 district and 22 – 6 overall.
Join Middleton High School students as they go to Murfreesboro today to support their team. Tickets may be purchased at the door at Middle Tennessee State University. If you are not able to attend the game, you may watch it online through the NFHS Network.
