April 2022 – County Commission Meeting

The Hardeman County Commission met for their regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, April 19, 2022.

Highlights from the meeting are as follows:

Emily Gibson, a senior at BCHS, presented her award winning speech, “The Future of Cultured Meat, Not the Future We Want“, to the Commission and citizens in attendance. Ms. Gibson’s speech won at the Regional and State level and she will go on to compete in Indianapolis, Indiana at the National level this fall.

No action was taken on Agenda item #11, Solar Farm Planning Resolutions/Amendments, since the Planning Commission had not presented any recommendations to the County Commission. Mayor Sain handed out papers to the commissioners listing options the Planning Commission might recommend in the future. There was no discussion on the “30 Day Hold on Zoning Appeals” that the Commission approved on March 22, 2022. That hold will expire this week.

Commissioner Johnny Lanier presented the Audit Committee Report. The full Annual Financial Report from the Tennessee Comptroller may be found here with the Schedule of Findings and Questioned Costs beginning on page 185.

The Commission voted to add Juneteenth, June 19, 2022, to the Current Holiday Schedule. Juneteenth became a Federal Holiday in 2021. This will increase the number of holidays observed by Hardeman County officials to 15.

Commissioner Mark Gilliam questioned Mayor Sain about the status of filling the vacancy for the County Attorney position. Mayor Sain stated he was interviewing a candidate this week, but declined to publicly disclose the candidate’s name.
