Area Cub Scouts to Hold First Meeting for School Year

The Hardeman County Cub Scouts will hold its first meeting for the 2025/2026 school year on Thursday, August 14, 2025, in Bolivar. Boys and girls, in first through fifth grades, and their families are encouraged to attend to learn more about the organization, which is entering its fifth year in Hardeman County.

“We do several activities a year and we camp two or three times a year. We went to Discovery Park and we had an activity with the Cub Scouts from McNairy County at the splash pad park in Selmer,” said Cub Scout leader Joe Van Dyke, who shared some of the plans for the upcoming Cub Scout year. “We have a full year of stuff planned. We are going on an eagle watch tour at Real Foot Lake. We have a bicycle trip at Shiloh planned for April, and we do a swimming party each summer.”

Mr. Van Dyke is looking forward to seeing returning Cub Scout members and meeting new ones interested in joining the troop.

“I shall be glad to meet with any folks showing up for the first night to explain about Cub Scouts, to let them know what we’re doing, and answer any questions that I can. I hope to see people on Thursday night,” said Mr. Van Dyke.

The Cub Scout meeting will be held on Thursday, August 14, 2025, at 6 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church {218 West Market Street, Bolivar, 38008}. If you are not able to attend the meeting, you may contact Mr. Van Dyke at (731) 609-4187 or Ms. Brenda Woods at (731) 518-8160 for more information.
