Area Schools Announce Spelling Bee Winners

Schools Across Hardeman County held their annual spelling bees to choose the students who will represent each school at the district-wide annual spelling bee, which will be held in January 2025.

Participating schools were Bolivar Elementary School, Bolivar Middle School, Grand Junction Elementary School, Hornsby Elementary School, Middleton Elementary School, Middleton High School, Toone Elementary School, and Whiteville Elementary School.

Each school chose three winners and an alternate, which has 24 students competing next month. The 4th Place/Alternate student will compete in the district-wide spelling bee if one of the first through third place winners is not able to participate.

“The spelling bee was and still is a very integral instructional activity across the district to spotlight our students,” Monica Shaw, Assistant Director of Teaching & Learning Pre-K – 5 with the Hardeman County School Board previously shared.

In January, there will be some familiar faces returning to the district-wide competition. At their respective schools, Hana Alnamrani of BMS won 1st Place this year and in 2023, and Jade Farris of HES won 2nd Place this year and in 2023. Mason Sowder of TES won 2nd Place in the district-wide annual spelling bee in 2023, and will be ready to compete as an alternate in January for his school.

The Hardeman County District-Wide Spelling Bee will be held at Bolivar Central High School on Monday, January 27, 2025, at 6 p.m.
