Arsenic and Old Lace Opens at Fair Theater This Weekend

Today, Friday, October 13, 2023, Star Inc. opens its production of Arsenic and Old Lace written by Joseph Kesserling. Deemed as a “hysterical comedy”, the 1939 play of Arsenic and Old Lace later was brought to the movie screen in 1944 with Cary Grant in the starring role.

Synopsis: Mortimer Brewster is living a happy life: he has a steady job at a prominent New York newspaper, he’s just become engaged, and he gets to visit his sweet spinster aunts to announce the engagement. Mortimer always knew that his family had a bit of a mad gene -his brother believes himself to be Teddy Roosevelt and his great-grandfather experimented on cadavers in the attic- but his world is turned upside down when he realizes that his dear aunts have been poisoning lonely old men for years! When Mortimer’s maniacal brother, Jonathan returns on the night that the aunts were planning to bury the newest victim, Mortimer must rally to help his aunts and protect his fiancé, all while trying to keep his own sanity as well.

Arsenic and Old Lace is showing on Friday and Saturday evenings, October 13, 14, 20, 21 at 7p.m. and a Sunday afternoon matinee at 2:00 p.m. on October 15 and 22.

Tickets are $10 and may be purchased online or at the door.
