Babysitter Arrested After One Year Old Found Unresponsive

A babysitter has been arrested and charged with Attempted First Degree Murder and Child Abuse and Neglect after first responders made the scene of an unresponsive one year old child in Whiteville on Thursday, August 17, 2023.

According to the arrest report, the child was observed to have a significant head injury as well as numerous cuts to her arms. Investigators observed numerous fingernail marks on the child’s arms as well as a laceration behind her ear on her neck, fingertip marks were observed on the child’s face, and burns from her torso to her toes, which medical staff reported to be an immersion burn.

The report states, “Medical staff advised these are new injuries. The child was in the care and custody of her babysitter, Alexis White, for approximately 25 hours prior to law enforcement being called to the home.”

The child was life-flighted to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital for treatment.

Alexis White, 26, of Whiteville is currently being held at the Hardeman County Criminal Justice Complex on a $300,000 bond.
