Blooming with Purpose: Fayette Cares April 13 Plant Sale to Nurture Mind, Body, and Soul
What better way to embrace spring than by celebrating the joys of gardening? Green thumbs and budding garden enthusiasts are invited to the 32nd annual Fayette Cares Plant Sale on Saturday, April 13, 2024, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Oakland Elementary School, to shop an impressive array of nearly 10,000 locally grown plants.
Although this botanical bonanza promises to help transform gardens, the deeper impact is the transformation of lives for those seeking refuge and aid at Fayette Cares. With each purchase, shoppers sow the seeds of caring by funding programs for the homeless, victims of domestic violence, and those suffering in poverty.
At the event, visitors will be greeted by a kaleidoscope of colors with rows upon rows of perennials, annuals, vegetables, herbs, and more. Need help filling a troublesome shady spot or unsure of how to add a splash of color to a sunny area? Are your tomatoes rotting on the vine or filled with spots? At the sale, you can seek advice from Fayette County Master Gardeners who are ready to help cultivate bountiful gardens.
The plants, provided by Willow Oaks Flower Farms and local gardeners, are different from those of big box stores. These locally nurtured plants are acclimated to the regional water, soil, and climate, with no growth inhibitors, so they will perform better and spread more joy. Plant donations are still needed and will be accepted until Thursday, April 11, 2024. Call John Tracy at (901) 491-2894 to coordinate a drop off.
Gardening can be a therapeutic pastime, an effective form of exercise, and a source for natural remedies. From 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., Ginger Winn, certified herbalist, former Memphis Herb Society President, and owner of Wild Child Herb Shop of Tennessee, will be at the sale offering free samples of herb-infused teas, honey, and fire ciders. Ginger will share her expertise on the healing properties of herbs, including joint pain and insomnia relief, brain-boosting qualities, antiviral benefits, and more. This is a great way to learn about ways to incorporate beneficial herbs into a healthy lifestyle.
Mark your calendars for a day of botanical bliss at the Fayette Cares plant sale on Saturday, April 13, 2024, to invest in your well-being and support a worthy cause. Learn more at FayetteCares.org/plants or by calling (901) 465-3802, extension 221.
