The Bolivar Academy of Cycling (BAC) held its grand opening this past Saturday with a program that helped kids learn a new skill, develop confidence, and overcome their fears.

Cornell Falls, BAC instructor, recently completed his League Cycling Instructor certification with Bike League of America. The instructor’s goal is to help people feel more secure about riding by educating cyclists and motorists and to ensure that people on bikes know how to ride safely and legally.

Mr. Falls taught the children basic bike riding skills and the proper way to wear a helmet. They practiced riding in a straight line and weaving through traffic cones on a course. After they successfully completed the course, he led the group on a ride through the neighborhood by Bolivar Central High School. On their ride, the children practiced using hand signals to inform motorists of their intent.

Participants received a certificate recognizing their successful completion of the Smart Cycling Youth Skills course.

At the conclusion of the program, the children were presented with a certificate recognizing their successful completion of the Smart Cycling Youth Skills course.

All participants received a free helmet and backpack. The Bolivar Academy of Cycling also provided free food and drinks.

Adults (16 and older) wishing to learn more about cycling are invited to attend a Smart Cycling Course on August 27 in Bolivar. For more information or to register, call the UT-TSU Extension office at (731) 658-2421.
