Bolivar Eatz Brings Food Variety to One-Stop Location
Get your taste buds ready, because Bolivar Eatz on the Block has officially moved in and is open in the neighborhood. A ribbon cutting was held on Friday, October 4, 2024, and hungry people are invited to stop by, choose from a variety of food options, and buy something to eat.
Bolivar Eatz on the Block is located where Richard’s BBQ once stood, owned and operated by Richard and Debra Hodge, for more than 30 years. In June 2022, Roy’s BBQ continued the legacy of serving good food from the same location. Earlier this summer, the property was sold and the building removed leaving a vacancy where many had regularly gone to purchase delicious barbecue. The address of 413 West Jackson Street in Bolivar became an empty lot, but it was not long before an idea to continue its reputation of being a food destination returned.
“They [Josh Pulse and Greg Vaughan] brought me the idea and we reached out to different food trucks,” said Sabrina McTizic, owner of Mac’s Cruzin Cuisine.
Ms. McTizic’s Mac’s Cruzin Cuisine is a familiar food truck seen around Hardeman County. Along with working her truck in the area, Ms. McTizic travels to other locations outside of the county and has met and connected with several other food truck business owners. She believes Bolivar Eatz on the Block will be a great opportunity for other businesses like hers as well as something the community will enjoy, because of the different food options available all in one place. As the operator of Bolivar Eatz on the Block, Ms. McTizic is excited about the possibilities of this new venture.
“There will be at least four to five trucks every day ready for customers. It will be open every day as long as someone is booked,” said Ms. McTizic. “People can follow the Bolivar Eatz on the Block Facebook page to keep up with the schedule.”
There were two other food trucks on opening day besides Mac’s Cruzin Cuisine. Sharron Traylor the BBQ Lady, who sold barbecue egg rolls, pulled pork, pulled chicken, and Philly cheese steak.
“I have been doing my food truck for five years. My best seller is the barbecue egg roll,” said Ms. Taylor, who loves the food truck business. “I think the food truck area is a great idea, especially for the community. It brings something new and a different variety. They get a little bit of everything.”
Juwon Coleman of Soaring Sandy’s came all the way from Murfreesboro and plans to return.
“We sell Coney Island based foods, burgers, wing dings, fries, corn dogs, chili cheese fries, and catfish,” said Mr. Coleman, who named his business in memory of his “beautiful mother”. “I love the food truck idea.”
Ms. McTizic hopes people come out and support Bolivar Eatz on the Block. She is working to ensure people have a variety of food options from which to choose, so individuals to families will find something they like to eat when they “stop by the block”.
“If you are a family and nobody wants barbecue, somebody can get a burger. A lot of people came out today and got a bit of something from every truck,” said Ms. McTizic.
Bolivar Eatz on the Block is open seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., as long as there are food trucks booked. You may visit the Facebook page or call Ms. McTizic at (731) 212-0804 for more information, and to book a food truck vendor space.
