Bolivar FRIENDS of the Library “The Manor” Escape Room Opens This Week
The table has been set for the next FRIENDS of the Library escape room experience at the Bolivar-Hardeman County Library (BHCL). The Manor, a murder mystery escape room will have guests looking for 11 clues to help decipher the code that will give them the combination to the lock to escape the room. You will need your best detective skills to find the name of the killer, the scene of the crime, and the lethal weapon.
This is the second escape room the FRIENDS of the Library has presented. In April, “Escape the Speakeasy: A Roaring 20s Experience” was well received by the guests who took the escape challenge.
“All who came had so much fun, they requested we do it again, so here we are. People love the challenge of an escape room, the time limit adds to the fun,” said Hannah Thompson, BCHL’s program coordinator. “We knew we wanted to do a murder mystery, and thought what better time than the Halloween season!”
Putting together the escape room was a team effort of the FRIENDS of the Library and Library staff. They had fun sharing ideas and working together to make the escape room an adventure for all who will attend.
“Every escape room requires a creative skill. Not every clue has a straightforward answer. Being able to escape means you need to look out for clues and work as a team to find the solution. Escape rooms are the definition of thinking outside the box,” said Deborah Carrier, a FRIENDS of the Library volunteer.
The FRIENDS of the Library has been able to support the Library in some of the activities it offers as well as building needed additions to improve the library experience for its patrons.
“The FRIENDS has donated funds to build a storage room, replaced some old (not working lights) in the hallway, and remodeled and updated the director’s office,” said Carrier. “We also provide funds for many activities offered.”
The FRIENDS of the Library has set a challenge for the Hardeman County Commissioners and the City of Bolivar Council members to compete as teams against each other, and accept the challenge to see which team can escape The Manor in the shortest amount of time. The question is, which group will make it out the fastest?
“We hope the community will see the library is not just a storage place for books, it also provides Internet access, computer usage, research material, workspaces, and genealogy search access, and is a hub for community networking opportunities” said Deborah. “But mostly, the library serves as a center for learning and fun.”
Escape from The Manor, a murder mystery escape room open dates are Thursday through Saturday, October 26 – 28, 2023, and November 2 – 4, 2023. The reservation time slots are 4:15p.m., 5:30p.m., 6:45p.m., or 8p.m., and admission is $10 per person, $15 for couples, and $8 for students. Call the library at (731) 658-3436 to schedule the escape room for your group.
