Bolivar-Hardeman NAACP Youth Attend 78th Annual State Convention
Article submitted by Kristine Anderson
The Bolivar-Hardeman County NAACP Youth Council was fortunate enough to go to the 78th Annual State Convention and Civil Rights Advocacy Training Conference, which was held in Chattanooga, Tennessee Friday and Saturday, September 13 -14, 2024. The students stayed at The Read House Hotel in Chattanooga.
The first day, the youth council attended a meeting held at the Second Missionary Baptist Church, which was on the importance of being aware of the problem of gun violence in schools. There was discussion of the new law, which states teachers now have the right to have accessibility to a gun in the classroom as long as they take certain courses and tests. The discussion was moderated by Mrs. Tene Franklin, who did an amazing job in sharing these very matters while leading a very informative discussion group.
A highlight for the youth group was having its voting advocacy campaign video, “We’re not going back”, featured at the conference. Our very own Rowan Green prayed the closing invocation. Members of the council stated they all had an informative and eye-opening night that day, which will carry with them. “ALL IN!”
The Bolivar-Hardeman County NAACP Youth Council held a fundraiser raffle to help raise funds for expenses to attend the convention. Two winners of the raffle were announced in November.
