Bolivar Middle School is Practiced and Ready for the New Basketball Season

It is basketball season in Hardeman County and Bolivar Middle School (BMS) is preparing for the middle school basketball season that begins on Monday, October 24, 2022. The BMS Tigers schedule has them playing all of the teams in the county.

Coach Mauricio Rivers is at the helm this year as head basketball coach of the BMS Tigers and is ready for the season. He is assisted by Coaches Taurus Waller and Desmond Williams. During the 2021/2022 season, the boys team, a district 2A area 18 team, finished 1st in the district, but was put out in the semifinals of the regional tournament.

“I’m excited to let everyone see how hard the kids and coaches have been working to make a state championship run,” said Coach Rivers who has been the BMS assistant coach under former head coach Demitrice Beauregard for the past five years.

Rivers has a roster of 15 hard working athletes. Although he expects there to be some challenges along the way, he is full of great expectation for his players. Rivers knows it will be an adjustment for some as they play at a higher level and in a different environment.

“Something I will watch for is seeing how the new members adjust to school play with the large crowds and playing in hostile environments,” said Coach Rivers.

The BMS Tigers have a full schedule with their first game being played away against the Hornsby Bulldogs. Rivers is looking forward to the schedule and playing against all the teams.

Along with the experience he has gained over the years as a basketball coach, Rivers will keep in mind a sentiment of Coach Beauregard when it comes to how he coaches and views the game, and that is “keep it simple, have fun and God will do the rest. Ubuntu – I am, because you are!”
