Bolivar Police Department Investigates Overnight Shooting

Bolivar, TN – On August 9, 2022, at approximately 1 a.m., Bolivar Police Department officers responded to 211 East Jefferson Street for a reported shooting. Upon arrival, officers found a 31-year-old black female with a gunshot wound to the head. The victim was identified as Chiquita Lanea Stanley of Bolivar. Ms. Stanley was transported to the Bolivar General Hospital, where she later died. Mr. Nathaniel Ellis, a 28-year-old black male, identified as the boyfriend of Ms. Stanley, returned to the scene while officers were still conducting their investigation and confessed to shooting Ms. Stanley. Mr. Ellis was taken into custody by Bolivar Police Department officers without further incident. He has been charged with the offenses of second-degree murder and being a convicted felon in possession of a weapon. This tragic incident appears to have occurred as a result of an earlier domestic dispute. Mr. Ellis is currently being held in the Hardeman County Criminal Justice Complex. As this is an active, ongoing investigation, no further details will be released at this time.
