City of Bolivar Working Diligently to Repair Sinkhole on Tate Road

On Sunday, March 16, 2025, the City of Bolivar shared on its Facebook page there would be an immediate closure on Tate Road due to a sink hole, which formed last week due to heavy rains. Tate Road is a major thoroughfare in Bolivar, connecting drivers from Highway 64/Market Street to Highway 18, frequently used by people in the neighborhood it passes through as well as those heading to the Toone, Silerton, and Jackson, Tennessee areas. The City of Bolivar is happy to report that progress is being made to complete the repairs needed, so the road may be reopened for regular traffic in the coming weeks.
Barricades were placed on Tate Road off of Highway 64/Main Street just past Brooks Auto Service and on the other end at Nuckolls Road just below one of the driveways of Michelles Magical Treasures, which unloads onto Tate. While repairs are being made, only necessary traffic, which includes residential and to Trinity Baptist Church, is allowed to enter.
“I am very proud of the hard work by the Bolivar Street Department in expediting the repair of the sinkhole. I would also like to express my gratitude to the Bolivar Utility Department and Bolivar Energy Authority for their assistance in relocating the utilities during the ongoing repairs,” said City of Bolivar Mayor Julian McTizic.
Although there is not a definitive completion date for repairs, the public works department is actively working, so traffic on Tate Road can resume to normal.
“[Repairs will be complete] Approximately in two weeks depending on weather,” said Mr. Jerry Mayfield, City of Bolivar Public Works Director.
“We kindly request your patience as our crews diligently work to complete the repairs as soon as possible,” said Mayor McTizic.”
