Bolivar Tigers Football Shows Promise in Scrimmage Against Harding Academy {video}

The Bolivar Central High School (BCHS) football Tigers participated on their home field in a scrimmage against Harding Academy on Friday, August 1, 2025. It was the first game, since practice began earlier this summer, where they had an opportunity to use the skills they learned in a competitive setting.

Scrimmages allow players to perform in a game setting, use the training and skills learned during practices, and build confidence playing the sport. It gives coaches insights, helping them identify areas which may need improvement, assess the performance of players in different positions, as well as plays which work well for the team. Head Coach Rennard Woodmore and his coaching staff used the game to help with planning for the upcoming season.

“My staff and I were just looking for our kids to compete, play hard, be physical, and understand the assignments they were given,” said Coach Woodmore, who praised his staff, which has been working hard with the players during the preseason. “I’m blessed to have a coaching staff that is resilient and hard working. Those guys are truly the backbone of our program, and I couldn’t do what I do without them.”

During the scrimmage, the Tigers ran several plays, which they have run during practices. It was exciting for the football staff to see the players put into action drills and techniques, which had been practiced.

“There were several times during the game where I could see the drill work. We had done it in practice and transferred it to real game situations,” said Coach Woodmore, who was impressed with his players on the field. “It was the first time this year against another opponent, but I could clearly say we were in pretty good shape. Our kids were going to give us everything they had on every single snap. We couldn’t be more proud of them.”

The BCHS Tigers will play Hardin County High School in a scrimmage at home on Thursday, August 7, 2025.

“That will be a bigger test than we had last week, being they are a 4A program. We just hope we can come out and compete with the same passion and physicality that we did this past week,” said Coach Woodmore.
