Bolivar’s Chloe Griffin Signs and Becomes a Dyersburg Lady Eagle
Bolivar Central High School (BCHS) basketball Lady Tigers Chloe Griffin signed her name on the line becoming a Dyersburg State Community College (DSCC) Lady Eagle. She was joined by family, coaches, teammates, and friends at the signing.
Griffin has worn a #1 jersey as far back as she can remember playing basketball. Although her new jersey number at Dyersburg is #13, Griffin will always be a number one person in the eyes of the people who have come in contact with her over the years.
BCHS head Lady Tigers basketball coach Christie Parker has known Chloe for her entire high school years of playing basketball, as her assistant coach for three years, and head coach for one year.
“She is a great kid, a great student, and a good leader,” said Coach Parker. “We are going to miss her here.”
Nathan Daume, DSCC Women’s Head Basketball Coach, had the opportunity to see Chloe play and was impressed by her ability to make shots.
“She shoots the ball really well. I like kids who can make shots. At the college level, the game is a little bit faster, there are more possessions in a game. Just having as many kids out there who can shoot the basketball, especially from the three-point line, that was what attracted me,” said Coach Daume.
BCHS athletes getting noticed and signed is a great plus for the BCHS athletic program.
“It helps build the program knowing our kids are being sought after to continue their career,” said Mark Fulghum, BCHS Athletic Director.
Chloe tore her ACL and meniscus and has been out since January. She noted it has been three months since she last played. Chloe has been following medical orders, so she can recover, and has found a safe way to practice working on her dribbling, which she does while sitting down.
“Dyersburg had been talking to Chloe before her injury,” said Coach Parker, “They are sticking with her and I am very happy about that. She has a great work ethic, a confidence about herself, and a calming effect. I think she will be a great teammate and leader. I’ll be going to watch her play.”
Despite the injury, Chloe shared that she has had a lot of fun playing with her BCHS teammates this season.
“It has been a really good senior season with coach Parker and everyone,” said Chloe who is excited about the next phase of her athletic career. “I have been looking forward to this and am ready to get back at playing basketball for sure. I am ready to see how different it is, see how much faster pace it is, and ready to work at a higher level.”
Over the summer, Chloe will work with a trainer to help build her muscles back up. She plans to study physical therapy and has learned a lot from the professionals who provide her medical care.
“I am very proud of her and we are very excited,” said Jasmine Griffin who is Chloe’s mother. “She started in seventh grade and has been starting ever since. She is a hard worker, and she deserves it. I hope it opens doors for her.”
Chloe’s Grandparents, Joe and Beverly Wilburn, were nothing but proud.
“I have been watching Chloe play since she was in grammar school. I enjoy watching her energy and love for the game. I’m excited and it makes me want to cry,” said Wilburn who plans to head to Dyersburg often to watch Chloe play.
