Councilman Larry McKinnie

During the Monday, November 10, 2025, City of Bolivar Council meeting, Councilman Larry McKinnie stated he was donating this month’s council pay to a local charity, Loaves and Fishes. He challenged the other council members to do the same.

“I know that alot of people are going through a lot of things right now since we have the shutdown and SNAP and all . . . I challenge the council members, my colleagues that are sitting up here, I am willing to donate my check tonight . . . I challenge this whole council, one little check ain’t going to hurt nobody . . . I’m donating my check tonight,” said Councilman McKinnie.

Along with Councilman McKinnie’s, $300 council meeting pay, the City’s employees also collected non-perishable food items to donate to Loaves and Fishes.

Loaves and Fishes, a non-profit organization, provides Hardeman County families in need with food for short-term assistance. The organization, which normally distributes approximately 200 food boxes each year, has already seen close to 300 food boxes go out to families in need.

You may contact Loaves and Fishes at (731) 609-2397 to donate or to learn how to receive assistance.
