Boogie Train Trackless Ride Can Add Entertainment at Your Next Event

The Boogie Train is a trackless train on which

The Boogie Train, a trackless train, took riders on a spin during its ribbon cutting ceremony, which was held at the Hardeman County Chamber of Commerce on Friday March 7, 2025. A hobby for Richard and Vicky Rucker, which turned into a business, has become an entertaining addition at birthday parties, church functions, festivals, schools, and company picnics.

In 1999, the husband-and-wife team built the Boogie Train as an activity they could do together. There were no plans for the train other than enjoying the fact they completed the project. In fact, when they took the train out to its first event, it was not even painted. Despite that fact, people enjoyed seeing the train and getting to ride in the cars.

The Ruckers live in Middleton and have family roots in the county. Mrs. Rucky was born in Toone where the couple lived a few years before moving to Mr. Rucker’s family farm in 1995. Their son, Josh, who is now 31 years old, was five years old when the family took the Boogie Train out for its first time on the road to an event.

“The first show we did was the Harvest Festival Parade in Bolivar. It was me and Vicky and our son, Josh. Afterwards, we gave our number out to two people,” said Mr. Rucker. “After that, we did a hallelujah festival, and then the next thing you know, we were at Middleton Elementary School, and doing birthday parties.”

From there, the popularity of the Boogie Train grew. The Ruckers, with Josh in tow, traveled through Tennessee, and to Arkansas, Alabama, and Mississippi. People of all sizes, from infants to adults, have enjoyed the trackless train where they are able to listen to a soundtrack during their ride. That experience is how the name “Boogie Train” came about.

“From Lynard Skynyrd to Fleetwood Mac, and Creedence Clearwater, people can choose the music to be played on the train at an event,” said Mr. Rucker. “We play church music and you can choose the favorite music your birthday child enjoys.”

“We play music on the train kids enjoy and the parents don’t mind them listening to,” said Mrs. Rucker. “Also, we are certified with the State of Tennessee as an amusement ride and are insured.”

Although Josh is no longer part of the Rucker team when they travel to events, a fond memory they share as a family is having met so many people over the years.

“Watching the kids’ excitement and the grownups laugh,” said Mr. Rucker.
