Brigadier General Warner “Nubbin” A. Ross, II and Tennessee State Representative Johnny Shaw embrace after the reading of the proclamation Ross received.

Brigadier General Warner “Nubbin” A. Ross, II, who became Tennessee’s 77th Adjutant General in March 2023, returned home to Hardeman County on Friday, October 27, 2023, to a well-deserved hero’s welcome. He was honored by the City of Bolivar and Hardeman County with a Hometown Hero recognition and a proclamation, which was read by Tennessee State Representative Johnny Shaw and his wife, Opal.

There were 13 whereases on the proclamation and the Shaws read each one, which only solidified the fact of Brigadier General Ross’ worthiness to receive the recognition for his service to Hardeman County, the State of Tennessee, and the United States of America.

“Mr. Hometown Hero” Ross humbly accepted the recognition and proclamation from the people, a community, “that I love the most”, and also credited Barrett Stevens, Tommy Perkins, Jerry Crowley, James Spencer, “all these great NCOs who have taken time to polish me and have patience with me . . . steel sharpens steel”.

Ross also made sure to recognize the men and women he oversees who are currently deployed.

“It is so good to be here, Becky and I don’t get to come home much these days,” said Ross. “But we are so proud to serve and represent 13,000 Air National Guard and Army National Guard, 700, 800 of them which are deployed forward tonight and in harm’s way,” said Ross slightly choking up. “Although this is our home and this is where our family is, that’s where we belong right now. God’s put us there.”

Ross asked for all to keep those soldiers and airmen in their prayers.

“What they are doing allows us to do what we are doing here. No doubt about it, we live in the greatest country in the world. I happen to think I live in the greatest community in the world,” said Brigadier General Warner “Nubbin” A. Ross, II.
