Caitley Mott Earns High School Diploma and Pharmacy Certification

Caitley Mott not only earned a diploma from Middleton High School when she graduated May 2024, but she also earned a pharmacy tech certification. That paved the way for her to pursue her goal of becoming a medical doctor.

She loves learning and had already taken every health science class available at MHS. The pharmacology program is one of several programs MHS students have the opportunity to complete and earn certificates in various career fields.

“Through the program, I was able to begin the process to become a certified pharmacy technician,” said Caitley. “Since it was a class in high school I could take, it was much easier to balance.”

Caitley started working at Middleton Pharmacy in April applying the knowledge and skills she gained and took the exam two days before she graduated in May. She continued through the summer working at the pharmacy gaining more knowledge and skill in the field.

“I can work in any pharmacy to count medicine, mix medicine, refill medications, and give people their prescriptions,” said Caitley, who shared about her experience working at Middleton Pharmacy. “I used the skills I learned and studied every day. I learned generic and brand name medicine and what they are used for, on top of all the laws and procedures needed for working.”

She sees value in the pharmacology program and believes students should take advantage of the certification programs offered through their high school. Caitley has experienced personal growth socially through the interaction with the customers she serves. She also understands the financial benefit of being trained in a skill or trade and the job opportunities that follow.

“Going from school to working in the pharmacy, it has helped me be more social by doing things I wouldn’t normally do. The relationships formed and the people I have met since working with my certification is one of my favorite things about it,” said Caitley. “Instead of having a low paying, high hour job out of high school, whether you go to college or not, you can become certified and work in a pharmacy to make a living.”

She encourages MHS students to explore the certification programs at the high school. Caitley shared interested students should be ready to pay attention and study hard, noting “memorization is key”.

Caitley is the daughter Evan and Danielle Mott, and will attend the University of Tennessee at Martin in the fall.
