Children Stock Up for School at Mayor’s Supply Drive

On Saturday, July 19, 2025, City of Bolivar Mayor Julian McTizic’s Back to School Supply Drive brought to Courthouse Square everything a child needs for a great start on the first day of school. Children were lined up at 10 a.m. and ready to stuff their bags and backpacks, both giveaways, with pencils and paper as well as other items on the school supply lists shared from their schools.
Children were able to add to their bags or backpacks, binders, pencils/pens cases, notebooks, crayons, markers, erasers, colored pencils, glue sticks, and paper folders.
“It will help us prepare for school,” said Linda Robinson, who thinks the event is a great benefit to the community.
Genesis Whitehorse is a rising fifth grade student at Bolivar Elementary School, who loves to read. She is looking forward to the new school year and was excited to choose supplies at the giveaway.
“I think it is very nice for the kids to get something, and very nice for them [sponsors] to give away school supplies,” said Genesis, who shared her favorite pick of the supplies. “I like the colored pencils, because I really like to draw and color.”
Tiffany Jimenez, who brought her middle school and pre-k children to the event, shared her thoughts and appreciation.
“The kids really need something like this and I really appreciate it,” said Ms. Jimenez.
