Chris Williams, a City of Bolivar Councilman, received a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Bethel University in December 2024.

Chris Williams, a City of Bolivar Councilman, received a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Bethel University in McKenzie, Tennessee on Saturday, December 7, 2025. Since being sworn in as a councilman in July 2023, Mr. Williams has continued to strive for academic achievement, which has benefitted him professionally at the Memphis Police Department in the Public Information Office under Executive Administration and in the work he does as a councilman.

While a student at Bethel in the four-year program, Mr. Williams had to balance work, family life, and academics. He noted it was a challenge balancing all three, but remained motivated and encouraged along the way. Mr. Williams credits the support of his family for keeping him going.

“My family has always been my driving force. Their support, love, and belief in me push me to keep striving, even when things get tough,” said Mr. Williams. “My hope is that this accomplishment inspires my kids and others to pursue their goals, no matter how challenging the journey may seem. I’m proud of showing my kids the importance of perseverance.”

Mr. Williams is part of a growing number of working professionals, who are raising families and desire to pursue higher education for advancement in the workplace or just general knowledge. Regardless of their goal, Mr. Williams encourages others to not be afraid of returning to school.

“It’s absolutely possible, and you’re stronger than you think,” said Mr. Williams, who shared some tips, which helped him in achieving his goal. “Balancing work, family, and education is tough, but if you take it one step at a time and stay focused on why you’re doing it, your family, it becomes achievable. Lean on your support system, manage your time wisely, and never underestimate what you’re capable of.”

Mr. Williams is pictured with his family, which is his motivation for his continued academic achievements.

Mr. Williams is continuing his studies at Bethel University as he pursues a master’s degree in business administration.

“This is a significant step for me as I continue growing my knowledge and skills in business administration and leadership,” said Mr. Williams, who owns and operates Southern Express Pharmacy with his wife, Ashley. “I’m motivated to push forward and make the most of this opportunity. Completing this next milestone will certainly help me better serve the City of Bolivar and Hardeman County.”
