City of Bolivar Holds August Council Meeting

The City of Bolivar held its monthly meeting on Monday, August 12, 2024. All council members were present.

The meeting was opened with prayer and the pledge to the flag. The Council approved the minutes from the July 8, 2024, regularly scheduled City Council meeting. The Mayor’s announced that the City offices would be closed on Monday, September 2, 2024, in observance of Labor Day.

Public Comments: One citizen spoke during public comments- William “Rusty” McClellen shared concerns about a ditch flooding behind his house. He said the water is getting into his house. Mayor McTizic said he had hired A2H to do an engineering study to see if the culverts at the road are the right size for the water flow.

Standing Committee Reports were given by the following departments; Electric, Utilities, Fire, Police, Parks and Recreation, Streets and Sanitation, Library, Compliance/Zoning, and Tourism/Community Development.

Chief Price’s fire report included 20 calls in the city and seven calls in the county.

Chief Jone’s police report included 700 calls for service, 181 citations issued, 25 accidents (five with injuries) and 32 arrests made (all adults).

Old Business:

An update was given on Bolivar’s plan to annex the area known as Three-Way and Hollywood Acres. {Click here to read more about the update.}

The Council approved an additional 6 month extension on sanitation residential refusal truck loan.

New Business:

The council approved Resolution 2024-008: Authorization to Participate in the PEP Property Conversation Grant.

Mayor McTizic presented the first reading of Ordinance 2024-003 and 2024-004: An Ordinance to Change the City Election Date to the November General Election Date. {Click here to read more about how the Council voted on this matter.}
