City of Bolivar Swears in Council Members

Four newly or re-elected Bolivar City Council members were sworn in on Saturday, July 1, 2023. During the swearing in ceremony, they each took the following oath of office marking the beginning of their 4-year term.

“I, do solemnly swear that I will execute the duties of the office of Councilman, (district/position), for the City of Bolivar, Tennessee, to which I have been elected and which I am about to assume, without prejudice, partiality, or favor, to the best of my skill and ability; and I do further swear that I have neither given nor will give any support for my office; nor have I sold or offered to sell, nor will I sell my interest in said office. And I further swear that I will support the Constitution of Tennessee and the Constitution of the United States of America. So Help Me God.”

The new city council members are Caroline Miller and Chris Williams. The re-elected members are Todd Lowe and Larry McKinnie.

For their first order of business, the council appointed Suzanne Rhea as Vice-Mayor, and approved Mayor Julian McTizic’s appointments of the newly or re-elected council members to boards and commissions.

Mayor McTizic’s appointments included:

  • Planning Commission – Melvin Golden
  • Library Board – Chris Williams
  • Historic Rezoning – Caroline Miller
  • Parks and Recreation – Michael Brown
  • BEA Board – Todd Lowe
  • Utility Board – Suzanne Rhea
  • Fire Representative – Tommie Woods
  • Police Representative – Larry McKinnie
  • Beer Board – Melvin Golden, Todd Lowe, Suzanne Rhea, and Caroline Miller
  • Slum Committee – Larry McKinnie, Suzanne Rhea, and Chris Williams

The next meeting of the Bolivar City Council will be Monday, July 10, 2023 at 6 p.m. at Bolivar City Hall.
