Community Celebrates Healthier Options in Hardeman

Betsy Jones, representing Hickory Valley, shares accomplishments with Bolivar Fire Chief Lynn Price.

Residents and friends of the county came out and celebrated all that Hardeman Healthy Outreach has accomplished in our county to make healthier choices more accessible with a “Takin’ It to the Streets” themed celebration last week.

For nearly five years, Hardeman Healthy Outreach has collaborated with steering committee members from each of the eight municipalities to increase access to nutritious meals and opportunities for physical activity.

During the celebration, each of the steering committee members were recognized and were able to share with those in attendance all that had been accomplished in their town. Some of the projects included, walking trails with signage, exercise equipment installations, free produce bins, help with farmers markets, and second Saturday community walks.

April Allen shares accomplishments in Grand Junction.

Making healthier living choices simpler for people has been the goal of the program. Even though many of their original plans were altered by the pandemic, they did not let that hinder them from finding other creative ways to achieve their goals.
