County Bicentennial Book Committee Needs Your Help to Make History Book a Reality

Hardeman County has come a long way since its creation by the Tennessee General Assembly in 1823, and the Hardeman County Bicentennial Book Committee needs your help capturing that history for the Hardeman County History and Families, Vol. III – Bicentennial Edition.

The Hardeman County History Book was first published in 1980, and then again in 2000.

“The book will attempt to capture and continue the documentation of the history, which was first published in 1980, and then again in 2000,” said committee member Vanessa Lambert. “It will cover as far back as has been documented or memorialized through family members.”

In order to bring the book to fruition, over 200 family histories are needed as well as history from local churches, businesses, and schools. The Bicentennial Book Committee, formerly chaired by the late Greg Howell, and now chaired by Cathy Mayfield, is thankful for all the families that have responded to record their family’s heritage for the book.

The book features history from businesses, churches, families, and more.

“It will cover mostly people, but also events as they pertain to and shape the histories of the county and its people,” said Lambert, who recently requested support for the project from the County Commission. “If you have recently moved to Hardman County, we want your history too.”

Submissions for the book may include any interesting family stories from childhood, marriages, children, jobs, military, education, organizations participated in, etc. The word count is 500 (free) and any additional words will be a charge of 15 cents per word. Dates are not included in the 500-word count. One picture may also be included with the submission. Any additional pictures may be added at $15 each.

Special pages dedicated to businesses, farms, organizations, clubs, and memorial or tribute pages to loved ones will also be included in the book with prices that range from $85 – $250 for the submission.
