County Commission Approves First Reading of the New Budget

The Hardeman County Commission approved the first reading of the budget for the fiscal year 2022-2023 at their monthly meeting this week. The budget will now be presented at a public hearing, which has yet to be set, and will then be presented to the Commission for a second reading on June 21st. If the budget passes on the second reading it will take effect on July 1, 2022.

Other items of interest from the May 17th County Commission Meeting are:

(17 minute mark, in the video) – Assessor of Property, Josh Pulse, reminded the Commission that property reappraisals were going to happen next year. Property owners should expect to see an increase in their property value.

(33 minute mark) – Presentation of Fiscal Year 2022-2023 County Budgets.

(57 minute mark) – Sheriff Doolen answers questions from Commissioners regarding his satisfaction with the proposed budget.

(1:49 minute mark) – The Commission approved the purchase of a trash compactor for the landfill. The purchase price is $618,000 and will be paid for with a loan from The Bank at a rate of 2.99% over 84 months.

(1:52 minute mark) – Mayor Sain recommend appointing Brad Grantham, Pat Plunk and Cissye Pierce to the Property Committee to oversee historic properties. The Commission approved his recommendation.

(1:57 minute mark) – The County Attorney position is still open. Mr. Cary is planning to resign from the Tax Attorney position on September 1, 2022. Amber Shaw is currently providing legal advice to the County.

(2 hour mark) – Commissioner Wright turned a Zoning Amendment Petition in to the County Clerk. The petition was created and signed by Hardeman County residents concerned about the County’s Solar Zoning.
