Dance Twirl N’ Motion Performs at Fried Pie Festival
The young students of Dance Twirl N’ Motion baton twirlers performed at the Fried Pie Festival on Saturday, September 7, 2024, in Selmer, Tennessee. It was the first time the students, led by instructor Teri Dixon, performed publicly since beginning classes earlier this year.
“I had 29 girls who attended that made up for three teams. The two through six-year-olds did a routine to “Polly Wally Doodle”. The seven through 10-year-olds did a routine to “Savage Love”. The 11-year-olds and older did a routine to “Can’t Stop That Feeling”,” said Ms. Dixon, who shared how proud she was of their performances.
Baton twirling was a popular sport in the 1950s and Ms. Dixon hopes to bring it back to popularity in the West Tennessee area. She offers baton twirling classes in Bolivar, Middleton, and Selmer.
In February, the students performed at the Homeschool Rockin’ Sock Hop, a private dance event for home school students that was held by Homeschool Roster and the Hardeman County Homeschoolers at the Hardeman County Arts Center in Bolivar. That gave the students an opportunity to show the skills they learned since starting class.
You can see the Dance Twirl N’ Motion baton twirlers perform this winter at the Bolivar and Middleton Christmas parades, and in January 2025 during its “Let It Snow” recital.
