Decades Night Featuring Party Planet Comes to the Luez

It was Decades Night at the Luez Theatre on Thursday, August 16, 2024, and the Party Planet band brought the party and good music vibes. If you are a fan of Al Green, with a mix of Donna Summer, and Chris Stapleton, at the Luez Theatre is where you should have been for a night of party songs that would make anyone want to get up and dance.

Party Planet, the Premier Party Band of the Mid South performed on stage with lead vocals by Marcus Scott and Katrina Anderson, and musicians Jason Clark, RoLandus Lauderdale, Gene Nunez, Patrick Register, and James Robertson. Seeing their comfort together on the stage, it came as no surprise to learn the band members have been performing together for more than 15 years.

The evening of music opened with Stevie Wonder’s song “All I Do” and Marcus eased into “Let’s Stay Together” by Al Green. He did a little teasing in falsetto all the way to lyrics from Michael McDonald’s “On My Own”. The evening flowed as a casual and intimate experience to the delight of those in the audience.

Party Planet sings songs from a wide range of musical eras. Audience members were encouraged to come dressed in attire that best reflected their favorite decade for a chance to win a prize. City of Bolivar Mayor Julian McTizic and his wife, Demetria, came dressed from the 1980s, with the mayor becoming Michael Jackson. He even “performed” Michael Jackson’s song, “Rock With You” with a little help from Marcus.

The Woods from Jackson, Tennessee came dressed in attire that reflected their favorite decade and were chosen as the winners of a gift card to a local restaurant.

Party Planet closed the evening performing Lionel Richie’s song “All Night Long” which got audience members on their feet and dancing a party line around the aisles of the theatre.

The Decades Night was hosted by Mayor Julian McTizic.
