A seasoned educational leader with over three decades of experience in K–12 and higher education, Dr. McPherson brings a wealth of knowledge, a proven track record of student-centered leadership, and a passion for excellence to the district.
Dr. McPherson’s distinguished career includes service as a classroom teacher, coach, principal, adjunct professor, federal programs director, and superintendent. He has held leadership roles in both urban and rural school districts across Alabama and Tennessee. Most recently, he served as a middle school math teacher in Franklin County, Tennessee, continuing his commitment to staying closely connected to the classroom and the evolving needs of today’s students.
Dr. McPherson also serves as a mentor for school principals—a role he considers one of the most vital in educational leadership. With deep understanding of the pressures and responsibilities school leaders face, he provides guidance, insight, and encouragement to help principals grow professionally, build strong school cultures, and stay focused on what matters most: student success. He believes that mentoring school leaders creates a ripple effect of excellence that reaches every classroom and every child.
In addition to his work in education, Dr. McPherson spent eleven years working with two Fortune 500 companies, where he earned the highest awards given for excellence in sales and marketing at both organizations.
