Election Commission Discusses New Building Request

The Hardeman County Election Commission held a regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, October 24, 2023.

The meeting started off with a public forum, but no members of the public chose to speak. The commission then approved a public forum policy, the meeting’s agenda, and the minutes of the May 23, 2023, meeting. They also reviewed and inspected a portion of the new voter registrations.

An update was given on upcoming elections which included; both the Republican and Democratic Party called for their primary to be held in conjunction with the March 5, 2024, Presidential Preference election for all offices available. Petitions can now be picked up for the March 5, 2024, election.

Election Administration Amber Moore gave an update on her request for a new building. She reiterated the reasons for needing a new building, including the need for more space with the new voting machines and privacy booths and the need for more storage because they will be using paper ballots. Ms. Moore stated that they were no further along in the process than when she first made the request. The election commission members claimed the County Commission had not acted on a motion to contact an engineering firm, which was made and voted on at the commission’s February 2023 meeting. {You may watch the February County Commission meeting here. The motion in question is made at the 34:40 min. mark and restated and voted on at the 37 min. mark.}

The next Election Commission meeting is set for December 6, 2023, at 3 p.m.
