Four members of the Hardeman County Emergency Medical Services (HCEMS) department were recognized with a certificate of appreciation at the Hardeman County Commission meeting on Tuesday, February 21, 2023, for their 30 years of service. Matthew Ernst, Kim Hines, Tommy Parchman, and Harvey Vandiver stood at the meeting and were applauded by some of the citizens they serve in Hardeman County. Hardeman County Commissioner Bethany Miller and Hardeman County Mayor Todd Pulse presented Ernst, Hines, Parchman, and Vandiver with their certificates.

Harvey Vandiver has been with the HCEMS for 47 years. Vandiver jokingly said he is looking forward to retirement, but also shared what he loves about his job.

“I enjoy serving the community and helping people. That is why I have been doing this for so long,” said Vandiver.

Matthew Ernst, who has worked for 30 years, shared, “What I enjoy the most about my job is I get to work for an organization that believes in this county . . . that believes in the people who work here, and provides us every tool and equipment we need to do our job.”

“I enjoy working for the people of Hardeman County, taking care of their medical needs, seeing people do well, and going on to a better life,” said Tommy Parchman, who has worked for 32 years.

Kim Hines also shared some comments.

“I have been a paramedic for a little over 30 years. EMS has evolved over the years and I am proud to be serving Hardeman County,” said Hines. “I am hoping soon our protocols will improve with the growth of the county.”

HCEMS Director Jamie Burnett started in 2004 and has almost 20 years of experience in emergency services. He hopes the recognition brings awareness to the experience and level of skill the community has in its emergency medical services department.

“I am proud of our county commissioners and our ambulance committee for recognizing the people that we have with this much experience,” said Burnett. “The recognition lets the public know what kind of people we have out there taking care of them.”
