Mrs. Harris celebrated her 100th birthday on February 7, 2024, in what Senator Page Walley referred to as, “a milestone that will be commemorated as yet another precious souvenir of life’s rich pageant”.

She was born in 1924 in Wayland, Kentucky, later moved to Jackson, Tennessee, where she graduated from Jackson High School in 1942, and continued her educational career attending West Tenness Business College and Union University for a short time. Well-respected in her line of work, Mrs. Harris initially began her career as a payroll clerk and later became the secretary and treasurer of the Harris Gin Company.

Mrs. Harris participates in several organizations, which keeps her close to her community and her passions. She is a 65-year member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Mrs. Harris is also a member of the National Society Colonial Dames of America, Jamestown Society, Magna Charta Dames, Daughters of 1812, Colonial Order of the Crown, Plantagenet Society, United Daughters of the Confederacy, The Huguenot Society, and the Fontaine Maury Society.

She married Oscar Emsley Harris, Jr., on September 13, 1942, and the couple enjoyed nearly 74 years together until the time of Mr. Harris’ passing at 93 years of age.

Mrs. Harris, a dearly beloved member of the Hardeman County community, has two children, Dr. Bradley M. (Kathy) Harris and Tempe Harris (Mike) Easterday, seven grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
