“Charles Morrow is a genuine servant and it is good to be here this morning for us to say ‘Charles, thank you!’.” shared Representative Johnny Shaw, at the Viscen Charles Morrow Day celebration.

Accolades of appreciation for years of service to the Hardeman County community began the celebration on Saturday, February 3, 2024. Family, friends, and elected officials joined in and recognized all that Mr. Morrow has accomplished as a board member, deacon, trustee, volunteer, public servant, and business owner serving his community and county for over 30 years.

According to the proclamations presented by Hardeman County Mayor Todd Pulse and Representative Shaw, Mr. Morrow, who is a graduate of Bolivar Industrial High School, earned his M.B.A. in Real Estate Management and a doctorate in religious studies from Buxton University. At the time of his retirement from the Hardeman County Commission, Mr. Morrow was the longest-tenured member, having served thirty years from 1992-2022; he also served two terms as vice-mayor during his time on the commission.

Viscen Charles Morrow was joined by immediate and extended family at the Viscen Charles Morrow Day celebration.

He has served as a member of the Carl Perkins Center board of directors and president of the Lee Ola Roberts Library and the Hatchie Regional Library. Mr. Morrow is presently chairman of the Whiteville Lake Committee, vice chairman of ECHO, and a member of the Hardeman County Mentor board.

As a devout Christian, Mr. Morrow helped establish Greater Victory Church of Hardeman County under the leadership of Reverend B.L. Jackson and still serves as a trustee. He is also a founder of Disciples Embracing Christian Education Bible College

Representative Johnny Shaw continued to show his appreciation and empathized with the difficult decisions that public servants have to make.

“We thank you for your service because I know how many days and nights you’ve had to make decisions and you’ve always wanted to make the right decision and sometimes when you’re trying to make the right decisions . . . and all politicians in here know this . . . it gets hard, because you think of someone you know over here that says it ought to be this way and someone over here says it ought to be that way. So how do you make that decision? Well ladies and gentlemen, I’m going to tell you. If you are in public life and don’t have a relationship with the Almighty God, you need to leave today, because sometimes the only decision you can make it the decision you know that Jesus Christ himself would make about the situation.”

Current and past elected officials came out to celebrate Viscen Charles Morrow. In conclusion, Representative Shaw emphasized Mr. Morrow’s commitment to his faith in all his decisions.

“I want my legacy to be he did what he thought was right according to what the Bible says. Not what a Democrat say or a Republican say, but what the Bible says about it . . . and that is Charles Morrow.”
