First Baptist Church Whiteville Holds First VBS in Five Years

On Monday, July 14, 2025, First Baptist Church Whiteville kicked off its first Vacation Bible School (VBS) in five years. The theme was “Magnify.” Tim Boyd has been the pastor of First Baptist Church Whiteville for two and one half years. He believes God sent him to the church on a mission and with a purpose.
“God sent me to Whiteville to minister to all ages and God moved me through current members of the church to see a need in the community,” said Pastor Boyd.

Those who made the program happen prepared by praying hard and seeking God with everything they had. Pastor Boyd considered the VBS a large blessing.
“We had a great turn out, many came of all ages and ethnicities. It was wonderful,” said Pastor Boyd.
The Vacation Bible School was a local event that blessed all ages, children to adults. Pastor Boyd shared that many of the adults who helped and served were not all church members. He hopes the VBS impacted them to know that Jesus is Lord and Savior, and through Jesus, the community can come together in grace and mercy for one another every day.
Pastor Boyd said that between crafts, kids, and dinner with the participants, it was hard to pick just one favorite moment from the VBS.

“One special moment was when a young man accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior. Romans 10:9.” said Pastor Boyd.
Plans are underway for the VBS to become an annual event in hopes that it will grow and continue to impact the community with love. They currently have a children’s Sunday school and a new mission group called Created to Reach Everyone in Whiteville (CREW). The CREW members perform a type of outreach they refer to as “grill walks,” where a grill is hooked to a van, which is readily available for whoever needs transportation. First Baptist Church also has plans for assembling a food pantry, and intends on developing more programs as people come and Christ leads.

First Baptist Church Whiteville is located at 203 East Main Street in Whiteville. Their Sunday hours include Sunday school at 10 a.m., a morning service at 11 a.m., and an evening service at 6 p.m. Wednesday night service is at 6 p.m.
