Ford Fund Helps Power the Future by Supporting Fayette Cares

Fayette Cares representatives were invited to the BlueOval City Live event on Friday, March 24, 2023, in Stanton, Tennessee where the Ford Fund (Ford Motor Company’s philanthropic arm) announced the recipients of its new $1 million capital grants program to benefit the West Tennessee region surrounding BlueOval City.

Over 200 grant submissions were narrowed down to 17 winners from six West Tennessee counties. Fayette Cares was proud to be among the organizations chosen to receive a grant.

“We’re honored and grateful to have been selected for funding and the chance to partner with community champions like Ford Motor Company,” said Fayette Cares Executive Director Alexandra Porto. “This grant is an investment in our community and a commitment to making a positive and lasting impact for generations to come.”

With the funds, Fayette Cares will be able to enhance the emergency food pantry and make important repairs to the safety fencing and facilities that benefit homeless families and victims of domestic violence.

Although the community has seen an increase in food insecurity and need, Fayette Cares’ efforts have been limited due to available storage and refrigeration equipment.

“A 136 square foot space is just not enough to serve the estimated 4,350 (10.7 percent) food insecure people in Fayette County,” said Porto. “Now, we can renovate the space previously used as our charity thrift shop and donation center to make a desperately needed food pantry expansion.”

To make this important expansion possible, Fayette Cares now receives clothing donations via its 24-hour donation boxes throughout the community. The agency will continue to operate a charitable thrift shop on the Somerville Court Square to provide items to families in need and help fund the mission.
