Four Middleton High School (MHS) students will participate in American Legion programs, which will be held on the campus of Lipscomb University in Nashville. Harmony Bell and Adriauna Jones will attend Girls State and Cody Brinson and Hunter Lipford will attend Boys State representing MHS as delegates. During the one week program, the students will have the opportunity to learn about government, civic responsibility, love of God and country, and shaping future leaders.

Boys State was organized in 1935 by the American Legion and the American Legion Auxiliary has offered Girls State since 1947. The programs are open to rising high school seniors. The opportunity for them to attend the state programs is sponsored by the Selmer American Legion Post 162 of Selmer, Tennessee.

“As a Post, one of our goals is to support our community and help young people,” said Donetta Poisson, who is the Service Officer of Post 162 and the Career Advising – Post Secondary Access Coordinator at MHS.

The students were selected by MHS faculty and interviewed. Their responses to questions, which covered topics like [government] policy, the American government, and the American Legion, were considered in them being chosen.
