Frank Hazelwood Celebrates 100th Birthday, Recognized by County Commission
Hardeman County Mayor Todd Pulse, along with the entire Hardeman County Commission, recognized Mr. Frank Hazelwood for his remarkable service to our country and our county, and wished him a Happy 100th Birthday during the November County Commission meeting.
Mayor Pulse presented a proclamation to Mr. Hazelwood, which stated in part, “WHEREAS, Mr. Frank Hazelwood, an outstanding and highly respected friend of the citizens and communities of Hardeman County, Tennessee, celebrated his 100th birthday on November 20, 2023; and WHEREAS, born in Whiteville to William Smith Hazelwood and Mary Elizabeth Freels along with siblings, William, James, Virgie, Ione, Earl. The family experienced hardships of the Great Depression, but learned the value of hard work and respect for his fellow man and great nation; and WHEREAS, he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1940 at age 17 and went to Utah where he used dynamite to cut roads through the stone; and WHEREAS, he joined the United States Army at 19, during World War II and served in France as a mechanic and moved supplies through Europe. He discharged from active service in 1947. In recognition of his outstanding service, he was awarded numerous awards, including the WWII Victory Medal, American Defense Service Medal, European Campaign Medal, and American Campaign Medal; and WHEREAS, he married Mary Evelyn Henson in 1947 and they had four children, Norma Jean, Tommy, Johnny and Rose Mary; and WHEREAS, he joined the Tennessee Army National Guard in 1948 where he served with distinction and honor until 1983, while working for Hardeman County and the State of Tennessee.”
The proclamation continued, “NOW THEREFORE, I, Todd Pulse, Mayor of Hardeman County, along with the entire Hardeman County Commission, wish to recognize Mr. Frank Hazelwood for his remarkable service to our country and our county, and would like to wish him a Happy and Blessed 100th Birthday. IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I do hereby set my hand and seal this 21st day of November, 2023.”
Mr. Hazelwood was recently recognized at Hardeman County’s Bicentennial Celebration in October and at the annual Hardeman County Veterans Day Program that was held in November.
