Hardeman County 4-H Extension Agent Gary Rodgers Recognized, and Celebrates 25 Years

Hardeman County 4-H Extension agent Gary Rodgers was recently recognized by Tennessee 4-H during National 4-H Week, which is October 1 – 7, 2023. During this same week, on October 5, 2023, Rodgers will celebrate 25 years as a 4-H agent in Hardeman County.

Tennessee 4-H is recognizing 4-H agents across the state “who have shown their ability to be great, hard-working stewards of the 4-H motto” and noted the responsibility they have, as 4-H members “look up to them as role models”.

As a 4-H agent, Rodgers visits Hardeman County Schools during the school year from October to April conducting education programs for youth. He also meets regularly with a homeschool group.

4-H is the largest youth development organization in the United States. It includes a network of 500,000 volunteers and 3,500 4-H professionals that provide caring and supportive mentoring to six million 4-H participants in fourth through twelfth grades. Although Rodgers was not involved with 4-H while growing up, he sees the value for students participating in the organization.

“4-H helps young people learn life skills and gives them an opportunity to work with others to learn more about various topics. We have a lot to offer in Tennessee 4-H,” said Rodgers, “I love interacting with the youth in our clubs. It’s also very satisfying when the youth excel in an activity, whether it’s a speech, judging contest, or at a 4-H camp event.”
