The Hardeman County Democratic Party held a reorganization convention on Saturday, March 18, 2023, at the Whiteville Community Center to adopt county party bylaws and elect new leadership.

Chosen to lead the party are Rickey Griggs, chairman; Michion Gatlin, vice-chairman; Candra Woods, secretary; and Willie Spencer, treasurer. Executive committee members include Larry Austin, Gene Bowden, Randy Crews, Rhonda Downen, J.P Hussey, Joe Jenkins, Bethany Miller, David Perry, Jr., Todd Pulse, Meryl Rice, Randall Rice, and Carlotta Woods.

Those core people will lead the Hardeman County Democratic Party for the next two years. Rice shared there are 70-90 members who regularly interact with the party structure. Along with those people, the party hopes to bring in more younger people to increase member involvement.

“We have several younger people who will be active and help build activity. The Hardeman County Democratic Party is transitioning to the younger generation and that is a good thing,” said Rice. “We would love to engage young people, so they have a voice that truly represents them. We want and need their voice and leadership as we go forward.”

Other areas the party would like to work on are its Internet and social media presence. The hope is the party will continue to grow.

In the past, the Hardeman County Democratic Party meetings have normally been held on the first Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m. The new Executive Committee will determine future meeting dates. You may contact Randall Rice at (731) 518-8134 for more information.
