The Hardeman County Democratic Party (HCDP) joined other West Tennessee Democrats on Saturday, September 9, 2023, for the Southern Heritage Classic Parade in Orange Mound, in Memphis. The theme of the West Tennessee Democrats float was “We’re your neighbors”, and it was pulled by Randall Rice with local Vice-chair Michion Gatlin and Commissioner Bethany Miller in the lead vehicle. The Democrats were well received by an excited crowd of parade watchers. Other counties that participated as part of the West Tennessee Democrats were Gibson, Shelby, and Tipton Counties.

Earlier in the year, the group had a float in the Strawberry Festival parade in Humboldt, Tennessee.

“It’s all about visibility,” said HCDP Chair Rickey Griggs. “People need to know they are not alone. There are many who share our Democratic values.”

The HCDP will meet for its monthly meeting on Saturday, October 21, 2023, at the Whiteville Community Center, at 10 a.m. After the meeting, the group will eat lunch at the Country Café in support of local businesses for its “Democrats support homegrown businesses” initiative.

On Friday, November 17, 2023, the HCDP will hold its annual fundraiser with Gloria Johnson, one of the “Tennessee 3”, as its guest speaker. Johnson is running for U.S. Senate, the seat currently held by Marsha Blackburn. The fundraiser will be held at the Senior Citizens Center, 136 Mitchell Street, in Whiteville, at 6 p.m. Contact Randall Rice at (731) 518-8134 for more information.
