The Tennessee School Board Association (TSBA) has long provided programs to honor the accomplishments of individual members of the school board and recognizes that it is equally important to acknowledge exceptional work by the school board as a whole. As such, the Hardeman County School Board has been honored for its efforts through the TSBA’s Board of Distinction Program.

Before a Tennessee school board may seek this designation, it must meet specified requirements in four key areas: planning, policy, promotion, and board development. One of the criteria is that each school board member has attended at least 75 percent of the board meetings during the last two
years.

School Board Director Dr. Christy Smith commended the Board on receiving this distinction, “There’s a lot of things we have to do to be a Board of Distinction. It’s not something that everyone just gets easily recognized for, there’s a lot of work to it.”

Dr. Smith continued, “It’s definitely an honor and a lot of work to be a Board of Distinction and you’re to be commended for the extra work you put into it, because you don’t have to do that.”

“There’s only about 30 boards across the state of Tennessee out of 141 that actually made Board of Distinction,” added Chairman Bobby Henderson.
