Harriet Thompson Named Sterling Awards 2025 Winner

Hardeman County General Sessions Judge Harriet Thompson is one of 20 women named by the Jackson Area Business and Professional Women as a Sterling Awards 2025 winner. Ms. Thompson and the other winners will be recognized on Tuesday, April 15, at the J. Walter Barnes Conference Center at the Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
The Sterling Award was first given in 2010 to recognize outstanding professional women in the West Tennessee area. The organization’s general criteria for each nominee are the following:
- Nominee lives or works in West Tennessee (not Shelby County)
- Nominee is a leader in business or her profession.
- Nominee serves as a role model to other women in her profession and community.
- Nominee displays creativity and innovation and contributes these talents to the growth of her profession.
- Nominee contributes time and energy to community betterment.
Ms. Thompson, who was admitted to the Tennessee Bar Association in 1990, made history in April 2024 becoming the first female General Sessions Judge in Hardeman County. This past week, she had an opportunity to meet the other nominees and was impressed by the women who are being recognized this year.
“I met all of the other women chosen and they are absolutely outstanding. We spent about two hours together and had a wonderful time getting to know one another,” said Ms. Thompson. “I am very thrilled and so honored to be chosen and honored to be a part of this very special group of women from West Tennessee.”
