Hatchie River Conservancy Announces Inaugural Third Saturday Paddle Event
Bolivar, TN – The Hatchie River Conservancy is thrilled to announce the inaugural Third Saturday Paddle event, set to take place on Saturday, July 20, 2024. This exciting event will feature a scenic paddle along the Hatchie River, covering the beautiful stretch just under nine miles from Highway 64 to Highway 18 near Bolivar.
This paddle event aims to highlight the natural beauty and ecological significance of the Hatchie River, one of the last unchannelized rivers in the lower Mississippi Valley. Participants will have the unique opportunity to experience the rich biodiversity and tranquil surroundings of this historic waterway.

– Starting Point: Highway 64 near Bolivar, Tennessee
– Ending Point: Highway 18 near Bolivar, Tennessee
– Distance: Just under nine miles
The event will be led by Bob Ford, Executive Director of the Hatchie River Conservancy, and and De Demetriou, American Canoe Association (ACA) Tennessee State Director and owner of Blues City Kayaks. It is open to paddlers of all skill levels, from beginners to seasoned enthusiasts. Our experienced guides will ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone. Along the way, participants will learn about the river’s history, its critical role in the local ecosystem, and the ongoing conservation efforts by the Hatchie River Conservancy.
“We are excited to kick off our Third Saturday Paddle series with this inaugural event,” said Bob Ford, Executive Director of the Hatchie River Conservancy. “It’s a fantastic way for the community to connect with nature, learn about the importance of our waterways, and support conservation efforts.”
In addition to enjoying the paddle, attendees will have the chance to meet and interact with the Hatchie River Conservancy’s volunteer river guides, who have vast experience on the Hatchie River and are knowledgeable about its unique characteristics. All volunteer guides are American Canoe Association (ACA) certified Paddlesport Safety Facilitators, certified in CPR and Wilderness First Aid, ensuring a safe and informative experience for participants.
The Third Saturday Paddle is more than just a recreational outing; it’s an opportunity to raise awareness about the Hatchie River and the need to protect and preserve it for future generations. A portion of the proceeds from the event will go towards supporting the Conservancy’s initiatives and ongoing conservation projects.
