Hatchie River Soapworks Celebrates New Location

Hatchie River Soapworks recently celebrated the grand opening of its new location in downtown Bolivar with a Hardeman County Chamber of Commerce ribbon cutting and open house.

Cindy Jeter, who has been handcrafting bath and body products for over 25 years, has grown Hatchie River Soapworks from a side hobby to an online business and retail store. She shared how the business began with a dream, literally.

“As a volunteer master gardener, I was seeking funds to landscape a local nursing home. After a restful night and dreaming, I awoke to the answer! I would make and sell soap,” Cindy said. “Additionally, as a nurse, I was well informed with how the skin functions as our largest organ and how skin integrity affects our overall health and wellness. Commercial products exacerbated my skin ailments. In search of better skincare and hygiene products, I started researching in hopes of formulating my own; however, information was not as readily available in 1995 as it is today. I spent a number of exhausting hours and days learning the craft and honing my recipes.”

Mrs. Jeter initially gifted her creations to family and friends and then later started selling at local vendor events. Soapmaking became more than a hobby; it was a method she used to raise money for local charities or individuals in need.

Cindy Jeter specializes in creating a variety of soaps, lotions, balms, butters, bath bombs and more. All are made just a few miles from the Hatchie River in Hardeman County.

“I prefer locally sourced ingredients whenever possible. The store also features other local artisan products that complement my soaps. I strive to produce affordable, better for you skincare, that you can feel great about using!”

Hatchie River Soapworks is located at 113 South Main Street in downtown Bolivar. It is open Tuesday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
