Heather Jo Moore Appointed as Hornsby Alderman
The Town of Hornsby Board of Alderman appointed Heather Jo Moore to serve the remaining term of alderman Curtis Vandiver, who was appointed to the position of mayor during the April 2023 meeting. Moore was unanimously approved by the Hornsby Board of Alderman and immediately sworn in by the Town of Hornsby Attorney Harriet Thompson, so she could start serving during the May 2, 2023 meeting.
Moore is a Hardeman County native having previously lived in the Saulsbury and Rogers Springs areas, and has been a resident of Hornsby for 39 years. She sees her new position as an opportunity to serve her community.
“I just want to help out in the community, because I am concerned about things in our town, and things that need to be done,” said Moore. “I hope I can do something that benefits the town.”
Although this is her first time serving in a government capacity, Moore worked more than 30 years as a church clerk for Hornsby Baptist Church. She knows how meetings are supposed to flow and is looking forward to learning more about how cities are run. A focus for Moore during her term will be managing water department issues along with alderman Pat Plunk.
“Now being on the water department, maybe I can help take some of the load off of Pat. She has been doing all of the calls herself, so this way, maybe I can be some benefit to help,” said Moore.
Moore hopes going forward the communication between both sides, the citizens and the board, continues to improve.
“I just hope people will open up and come to us to tell us what they want to do for the town and listen to us from our side, so we can have it be a peaceful communication,” said Moore.
Heather Jo Moore, Curtis Vandiver, and Pat Plunk, who were all appointed to their positions by alderman, will serve the remainder of the terms until the next Hornsby election in November 2024, when the mayor’s position and all five aldermen will be up for election.
