Hickory Valley Discusses Changes to Charter at Year End Meeting

The Town of Hickory Valley held its final meeting of the year last week. Mayor Ricky Ayers along with alderman Bobby Hensley, Duane Lax and Noel Toney were present for the meeting. Alderpersons Jane Powell and Brian Lake were absent.

The board continued discussion on making revisions to the town’s charter, which included ideas such as raising the age requirement to hold office, requiring a candidate to have served as an alderman before running for mayor, and allowing elected officials to serve on the volunteer fire department. Alderman plan to continue discussing ideas at the next meeting.

The board also approved opening a bank account to begin accepting donations towards a new fire truck for the town. It was announced earlier this month that Hickory Valley was receiving a $327,943 Community Development Block Grant to go towards fire services improvements. A new fire truck is expected to cost over $400,000.
