Hornsby Aldermen Appoint New Mayor

Curtis Vandiver is sworn in by Town of Hornsby Judge Harriet Thompson.

Hornsby Aldermen appointed a new mayor to fill the remainder of Megan Hedwall’s term, at their regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, April 4, 2023, after she suddenly resigned in March.

Alderman Curtis Vandiver was the only person to submit a letter of interest in the position. Alderman Wayne Isabell made a motion to nominate Vandiver for the position. Pat Plunk seconded the motion and it was approved unanimously by the aldermen. Mr. Vandiver has served as a Hornsby alderman for about 26 years.

“The water department is going to be our biggest task right now, getting it straightened out and then we’ve got some issues with the streets, as you’ve heard tonight. I hope we can bring the community together and work together,” commented Mr. Vandiver. “We’re here for the community. We’re going to try to do what we think is best for them.”

Mr. Vandiver will fill the remainder of the term until the next Hornsby election in November 2024, when the mayor’s position and all five aldermen will be up for election.
