Two Hardeman County Schools Recognized as Reward Schools
The Tennessee Department of Education and Hardeman County Schools announced Hornsby Elementary School and Toone Elementary School have been designated as Reward Schools for the 2021-22 school year.
“Tennessee students, families, educators, and school communities have worked hard to overcome a variety of challenges stemming from the pandemic and I congratulate them on their efforts,” said Commissioner Penny Schwinn, “Our teachers, school, and district leaders focus on helping students improve every day and we will continue to focus on student achievement, as well as growth, so that all students are set on a path to success.”
Schools are recognized as a Reward School when they demonstrate high levels of performance and/or improvement in performance by meeting their annual measurable objectives across performance indicators and student groups.
“A Reward School is identified for exemplifying student success (top five percent in the state) in achievement and growth,” said Ted Kessler, Hornsby Elementary School Principal. “I am fortunate to have a great community, parents, students, and staff.”
Schools serving kindergarten through eighth grade students are evaluated on four indicators, including achievement on the Tennessee Comprehensive Assessment Program (TCAP) assessments, TCAP assessment growth over time, rates at which students are Chronically Out of School, and performance on the English Language Proficiency Assessment (ELPA). High schools, in addition to these four indicators, are also evaluated on Graduation Rate and Ready Graduate Rate, or the rate at which students graduate while also having achieved milestones associated with college and career readiness.
