With many pressing issues facing the citizens of Oakland, Tennessee, this November’s election has brought out 10 candidates attempting to fill three available alderman seats. Taxes, wastewater, police, infrastructure, new developments, and schools are just some of the issues the growing town of Oakland has been dealing with lately.

Current Aldermen Frank Cates and Greg Duncan are the incumbents in the race with Alderman Todd Hahn electing not to run for re-election. The other eight names Oakland citizens will see on their ballot for alderman are Danny L. Bailey, Judy F. Chapman-Miller, Harry Pike, Mark Dimmock, Debbie Hummel, Hayes Laughlin, James Vlasaty, and Adrian Wiggins.

In order to help Oakland citizens get a better understanding of their next representatives and their stances on current topics, a meet and greet and forum was held on Thursday, October 14, 2022, at West Jr. High School with Hornsby Mayor Megan Hedwall moderating.

“In order to ensure this was conducted by an impartial independent party with no vested interest in the outcome, we reached out to Mayor Hedwall.” said Oakland Alderman Jeff Fisher, “Mayor Hedwall’s integrity, honesty, and professionalism were key to our reaching out to her to see if she would do this for our town. She accepted with graciousness and we are so pleased she was willing to do this for our town out of her busy schedule. Mayor Hedwall has gained a well deserved reputation as a strong leader.”
